Hong Kong (Web Desk) A 4-month-old local girl has been given a new lease on life after a heart transplant from the Chinese mainland was transplanted at a private children's hospital in Hong Kong.

According to foreign media, the girl who suffered a heart attack was in urgent need of a transplant to survive, for which the search for suitable local donations continued.

Meanwhile, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region sought help from the National Health Commission. The heart of a child who died in an accident on the mainland was found to be suitable for the girl. The heart was safely transported to Hong Kong, where The medical team at Children's Hospital performed successful surgery on him.

John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said the heart was the smallest ever transplanted in Hong Kong and that mainland and Hong Kong authorities overcame many difficulties to make it possible.
